8 Reasons why you must add paragliding@Bir to your bucket list

Himachal  Pradesh is not only a treasured place for mountain lovers, but it is also a place for adventure seekers. Many people dream of flying in the air and me not being different from them visited Bir for paragliding. Bir, the paragliding capital of India, is a quaint village located at an altitude of 8200 ft in the Palampur district of Himachal Pradesh. Adventure seekers from all over the world flock here to glide over the beautiful Dhauladhar range. Bir has the world’s second-highest and Asia’s highest paragliding spot. The first-ever paragliding world cup was hosted here in Bir in 2016!

If you still need reasons to book a paragliding flight @Bir, here are some:

1. Bir has the best take-off and landing sites in the country. While the take-off site has favorable air currents for smooth take-off and good uplift, the landing zone is vast with minimum possibility of accidents.

2. Bir has a great paragliding infrastructure: Apart from ideal climatic conditions for paragliding, Bir and billing also have many well-equipped operators with well-trained staff. These operators offer different forms of paragliding for adventure enthusiasts. From tandem to solo paraglides to hand gliders are available. Solo is for professionals, but tandem is a safe yet thrilling option for a newbie. The tandem flight has two people on a single paraglider. It is guided and controlled by a pilot with all the skill and experience. The Pilot knows everything like airspeed, altitude, and the safe flight route. All you have to do is enjoy the flight. The operators also run various courses and offer training for paragliding and hand gliding.

3. Long flight duration: One of the other reasons for the great experience of paragliding in Bir Billing is the long flight duration. The regular tandem flight usually lasts around 15-20 minutes. Long cross-country paragliding flights of 60-90 minutes are also available. It truly allows you to live your fantasy of flying.

4. Low cost: The cost of paragliding depends on the flight time and includes a complimentary GoPro video of the activity. The regular 15-20 min flight costs around 3000 Rs.

5. Breathtaking views: The cherry on the cake is the amazing view of the Dhauladhar range and lush green valley. Witnessing the enigma and beauty of creation while hovering at a height of 8000 feet is a humbling experience.

6. Feel the adrenaline rush: The whole experience of paragliding, starting from preparing for the flight,  running to take off, remaining suspended in the air at a height of 8000 feet and landing, gives your mind and body an amazing adrenaline rush. It is a must-have experience for all adventure seekers.

7. Overcome your fears: Many people believe that paragliding is a dangerous sport. This is not true. It is one of the safest aerial sports and accidents seldom occur. Moreover, favorable weather conditions, good landing and takeoff sites, and extremely experienced pilots ensure that paragliding in Bir Billing is met with all safety standards. Trying this intense but enjoyable sport is a wonderful way to help yourself overcome your fears! It can build up your self-confidence and make you believe more in yourself.

8. Opportunity to explore the beauty of Bir and Billing:
Bir Billing is more than the paragliding capital of India, there are many more activities available here like trekking, camping, mountain biking, and walking by the Bir river. Trekking and camping really allow you to enjoy the beautiful place Bir is.

P.S. A pro traveler tip: Visit the very famous Northern cafe after paragliding. It is close to the landing site and has a heartwarming ambiance along with amazing food options. Relish their delicious food while enjoying the view of floating paragliders.

Project E-waste collection drive

Poster for social media campaign  Environmental conservation is a cause I deeply care about. I've always been actively involved in school events and was even chosen as the e-warrior representative at school. To further this cause, my friends Panth Patel, Devarsh Kshatri, and I organized an e-waste collection drive in our small town of Anand. Anand lacks proper infrastructure for e-waste recycling, with the nearest authorized recycling units located in Ahmedabad or Vadodara. Sadly, about 95% of India's e-waste is recycled by unauthorized units or kabadiwalas, using non-scientific methods and often involving child labor, posing serious environmental and health hazards. To address this issue, during Diwali, when people traditionally clean their homes and dispose of unused items, we initiated our collection drive. We spread awareness through posters and messages on  WhatsApp groups, encouraging our community to participate. Additionally, we conducted an e-survey to as...

My Experience at YTS Summer Programme - June 2022

Plaksha University's Young Tech Scholar programme is one of India's most prestigious summer programmes for high schoolers. It offers an opportunity to learn from global academicians like Dr Ravi Jasuja ( Harvard Medical School), Dr Hanumant Singh ( North Eastern University), Dr Shashank Tamaskar (Purdue University) and founding members of Plaksha University. I applied for it on the very last day as I was not sure if I would be able to spare time for summer school. The application was comprehensive, with essays and questions based on logical thinking. Much to my joy my application was accepted. I was extremely excited but also nervous about going. I was going to travel alone for the first time. Thankfully, I could make some friends online beforehand through the college portal, which made me really look forward to the programme. The day finally arrived. My parents dropped me at the Ahmedabad airport. I was super excited, and my excitement grew as I reached Delhi and boarded the Y...
