How to plan an excellent getaway to Maldives without spending a fortune

Do you lust after the pristine white beaches and crystal clear waters of Maldives? Do you dream of snorkeling and diving along the most beautiful corals and seeing the most vivid sea life? But, does your concern about the cost of travel dampen your wanderlust spirit? lose your worries and cheer up! Budget travel to Maldives is possible if you opt for certain choices. Read on to find out how to travel to Maldives on a budget.

A) Reduce Flight cost: The first step is to ensure that you keep your airfare at a minimum. The key to this is traveling in the shoulder season, which is April and May, and booking your tickets well in advance.

B) Stay at a Public Island: This is probably the most important step, which not many people are aware of. Maldives is comprised of around 1200 islands. These islands are divided into 2 types: private islands, which are taken up by private luxury resorts, and public islands. The public islands are where the local people live. New government regulations allow tourists to stay on public islands. A variety of tourist activities are also available on public islands now. Moreover, the cost of accommodation is greatly reduced when you stay on a public island. And, this is not all. Staying on a public island has its benefits. You can experience the local culture and lifestyle, and there are more options for day excursions, food, and experiences. The most popular public islands of Maldives are Maafushi, Hulhumale, Fulidhoo, Guraidhoo, and Himmafushi.

C) Take public ferries: Opt for government ferries when traveling between islands in Maldives. Transfers to private islands through private speed boats are very high, starting at around 100💲. On the other hand, government ferries take you to different public islands for as low as 1-2 💲. But remember, public ferries do not connect private islands.

D) Eat out at local restaurants: It is a common misconception that food in Maldives is exorbitantly priced. Public Islands offer a large variety of cuisines in all kinds of restaurants. Bigger islands like Maafushi offer you more choices than smaller islands. So, if you want to reduce your expenditure on food, eat at smaller local restaurants.

E) Book excursions wisely: Maldives is all about beautiful waters and beaches. Indulging in water activities is on the to-do list of every traveler. But, be careful while booking those day trips. You can enquire about the rates of these trips and activities at various places. Usually, the rates offered by the hotels are the best. Also, you do not need to do every activity available on the list. Go for the most exclusive experiences, which may not be available at other places you have visited.

Still experiencing FOMO of missing the luxury and hype of private resorts? You can easily book a day trip to such resorts and indulge yourself!

Project E-waste collection drive

Poster for social media campaign  Environmental conservation is a cause I deeply care about. I've always been actively involved in school events and was even chosen as the e-warrior representative at school. To further this cause, my friends Panth Patel, Devarsh Kshatri, and I organized an e-waste collection drive in our small town of Anand. Anand lacks proper infrastructure for e-waste recycling, with the nearest authorized recycling units located in Ahmedabad or Vadodara. Sadly, about 95% of India's e-waste is recycled by unauthorized units or kabadiwalas, using non-scientific methods and often involving child labor, posing serious environmental and health hazards. To address this issue, during Diwali, when people traditionally clean their homes and dispose of unused items, we initiated our collection drive. We spread awareness through posters and messages on  WhatsApp groups, encouraging our community to participate. Additionally, we conducted an e-survey to as...

My Experience at YTS Summer Programme - June 2022

Plaksha University's Young Tech Scholar programme is one of India's most prestigious summer programmes for high schoolers. It offers an opportunity to learn from global academicians like Dr Ravi Jasuja ( Harvard Medical School), Dr Hanumant Singh ( North Eastern University), Dr Shashank Tamaskar (Purdue University) and founding members of Plaksha University. I applied for it on the very last day as I was not sure if I would be able to spare time for summer school. The application was comprehensive, with essays and questions based on logical thinking. Much to my joy my application was accepted. I was extremely excited but also nervous about going. I was going to travel alone for the first time. Thankfully, I could make some friends online beforehand through the college portal, which made me really look forward to the programme. The day finally arrived. My parents dropped me at the Ahmedabad airport. I was super excited, and my excitement grew as I reached Delhi and boarded the Y...
